Benton, KY — South Marshall Middle School has been awarded a $1,500 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support literacy and encourage students to develop a stronger love of reading.

The grant will be used to purchase new books and provide students with access to a digital library, expanding the reading resources available to students at South Marshall Middle School. These resources will give students additional opportunities to explore books and topics that interest them while supporting literacy development both in and outside the classroom.

“Access to engaging reading materials is an important part of helping students become confident and lifelong readers,” said Laura James, principal of South Marshall Middle School. “We are grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for supporting our students and helping us expand the resources available to them.”

The new books and digital library will provide students with greater access to a variety of reading materials and help create additional opportunities for independent reading. By increasing access to both print and digital resources, the project will support the school’s efforts to strengthen literacy and encourage students to make reading a regular part of their lives.

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has supported literacy initiatives across the country by providing grants to schools, nonprofit organizations, and other organizations working to improve literacy outcomes. South Marshall Middle School is grateful for the Foundation’s investment in its students and commitment to promoting literacy.
