Benton, KY — Jonathan Elementary School has been awarded a $1,745 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to support literacy instruction and encourage students to develop a lifelong love of reading.

The grant will be used to purchase the Accelerated Reader Program, providing students with additional opportunities to practice reading, monitor their progress, and engage with books at their individual reading levels.

Accelerated Reader will allow students to select books that match their interests and reading abilities while providing opportunities to demonstrate their understanding of what they read. The program will also give teachers valuable information about students’ reading progress and help them provide appropriate support and encouragement.

“We are grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for investing in our students and helping us strengthen our literacy program,” said Lyndsie Dempsey, principal of Jonathan Elementary School. “This resource will give our students another way to stay motivated, engaged, and excited about reading.”

The Accelerated Reader Program will complement the school’s ongoing literacy efforts by encouraging students to read regularly and take an active role in their reading development. By providing students with access to engaging books and a way to track their progress, the program will help foster confidence and build positive reading habits.

Jonathan Elementary School appreciates the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for its support and commitment to improving literacy opportunities for students and schools.
