Marshall County High School English teacher Dr. John Lloyd Clayton has been selected as a 2026 University of Chicago Outstanding Educator, recognizing his contributions to the academic and personal development of young people.

The University of Chicago’s Outstanding Educator program recognizes educators who have made a meaningful impact on the lives and educational journeys of their students. Dr. Clayton’s selection reflects his dedication to teaching, mentorship, and helping students develop both academically and personally.

In addition to this recognition, Dr. Clayton has been selected for the 2026 cohort of the McConnell Center’s Teachers Scholars Program (TSP).

The McConnell Center’s Teachers Scholars Program is a hybrid-based professional learning program designed for a select cohort of Kentucky educators. The program runs throughout the academic year and provides participants with opportunities to engage with leading scholars and explore important ideas that have shaped the American republic.

As part of the program, participants will examine the rich historical roots of the American republic through the study of five major cities and civilizations: Jerusalem, Athens, Rome, London, and Philadelphia. The program will explore the unique influence each has had on the development of America.

The Teachers Scholars Program includes monthly events featuring top experts from around the country, giving Kentucky educators the opportunity to expand their knowledge and bring new perspectives and experiences back to their classrooms.

Dr. Clayton’s selection for both the University of Chicago Outstanding Educator recognition and the McConnell Center’s Teachers Scholars Program highlights his continued commitment to professional growth and to providing meaningful educational experiences for students at Marshall County High School.

The Marshall County School District congratulates Dr. Clayton on these accomplishments and celebrates his continued dedication to his students, his profession, and the school community.
