Today, boys in grades four through 12 gathered at Twin Lakes Worship Center for the fourth annual Marshall Male Leadership Conference, a day designed to help students develop the skills and characteristics needed to become effective leaders.
The conference, held for students participating in the Marshall County School District’s Gifted and Talented program, centered on the theme “Built to Lead.” Throughout the day, participants took part in activities focused on team building, collaboration, critical thinking, communication and leadership.
Former Marshall County School District Superintendent and current FNB Bank Market President Trent Lovett served as the conference’s keynote speaker, sharing his experiences and encouraging students to recognize their potential as leaders.
The hands-on activities gave students opportunities to practice leadership skills in engaging and interactive ways. One activity, Lego Man, challenged participants to work together while focusing on communication and problem-solving.
Students also explored the importance of listening and handshake skills, emphasizing how effective communication and first impressions can play an important role in leadership.
Another activity, the Leadership Characteristics Chain, gave each participant an opportunity to identify a personal leadership goal. Students wrote their goals on colored strips of paper, which were then stapled together and strung across the room, creating a visual representation of the collective leadership goals of the group.
The conference provided students with an opportunity to learn from one another while developing practical skills they can use in school, at home and in their communities.
A similar event for girls, the Female Leadership Forum, is scheduled to take place in the spring.
