PADUCAH, KY (July 30, 2026) - Marshall County Technical Center is pleased to partner with Mercy Health to extend work-based learning experiences for students who are pursuing careers in the medical field. Marshall County Technical Center (MCTC) offers certifications in medical assisting, medical administrative assisting, nursing assisting, phlebotomy technician, EKG technician, and pharmacy technician. The students have the opportunity through the school's work-based learning to see and have hands-on experience.
MCTC has had work-based learning for some time now but finding placement in healthcare institutions has often proven a challenge as many facilities require students to be 18 years old before allowing them to learn there. Mercy Health is helping to alleviate that challenge by welcoming students into their facilities and offering a shadowing program.
Chassity Dunn, MCTC Allied Health Teacher, said, “Mercy Health opening up a job shadowing program for our students is so valuable. When in the classroom they hear about healthcare facilities, but being able to really experience what it is like fills in the pieces of the puzzle that the classroom cannot.”
Kasey Murphy, APRN, Mercy Health — Marshall Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Pediatrics said, “Not only as a provider, but as an individual who graduated from Marshall County High School, this program is one that I feel has been needed for years. Partnering with MCTC, we will be able to foster our own community and build our future health care leaders in Marshall County. Our goal is to bring strong health care workers back to our community and I am excited to be a part of a program that is doing just that.”
