Coroner Kenny Pratt talking to student during Truth or Consequences

It's true that the world is sometimes tough and not always fair. It's also true that with every choice there is a consequence.

Today, 8th graders from North and South Marshall Middle Schools participated in a program called Truth or Consequences, hosted by the Marshall County Extension Office. Students, accompanied by an adult, were presented a scenario sending them through the consequences of their choice. Maybe they chose to drive under the influence, skip school, or sell drugs. The students are then faced with the consequences of their actions.

Students proceed through the scenario by talking to a variety of community members, including a judge, law enforcement, paramedic, pharmacist, school administrator, and coroner, among others.

The students also took part in debrief sessions to discuss their situations and outcomes further. They also heard from Teen Challenge Speakers, individuals who had made bad choices in real life and the impact those choices had on their lives.

We'd like to thank the Extension Office and our FRYSC Coordinators for organizing the event. Thanks also to our other community partners who dedicated their time and energy to this educational and very impactful event for our students.
