SES student working with Picasso Tiles

Students at Sharpe Elementary got to show off to CFSB representatives the Picasso Tiles the school purchased thanks to an Empower ED Mini grant from CFSB.

This year, CFSB awarded $500 grants to 19 educators across the four markets CFSB serves.

Sharpe used its EmpowerED Mini Grant to buy 10 sets of the tiles that are used in elementary STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) instructional units. SES Library Media Specialit Ashli Gore says the tiles, in several shapes and sizes, are used to build different designs. On this particular day, the students were tasked with building a water slide.

Gore says the tiles are a way to encourage hands on learning and problem solving for the students.

Dallas Conner, Business Development Officer at CFSB, says if you are a teacher, be on the lookout next year for another round of grant applications.
