We are excited to announce that Mrs. Laura James has been named the new principal of South Marshall Middle School, effective July 1st. James is replacing Mr. Kevin Jackson, who will now serve as the district’s Secondary Supervisor of Instruction.
Mrs. James brings over 15 years of experience in education and has been a valued part of the SMMS family since 2019. For the past two years, she has served as Assistant Principal, where she has made a lasting impact by supporting teacher development, improving school systems, and fostering a positive, student-centered culture.
Her educational background is both rich and well-rounded. She holds Middle School English Language Arts, Science, Special Education, Administration, and Supervisor of Instruction certifications. Alongside her leadership experience, Mrs. James has taught at both the middle school and post-secondary education levels, giving her a broad perspective on student learning across all stages of development.
Her excellence in education has been recognized with multiple honors: she has been nominated twice as WCKTC REASP Educator of the Year and once as Administrator of the Year—a reflection of her dedication, professionalism, and commitment to excellence.
Mrs. James leads with a clear and passionate vision: “My focus is very simple—student learning and teacher growth.”
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Laura James as she begins this exciting new chapter as Principal of South Marshall Middle School!
