Marshall County Schools is pleased to announce that Mr. Allan Smith has been hired as the new Director of Transportation and Facilities for Marshall County Schools, effective July 1. He is replacing Jeff Stokes, who is retiring this summer.
Smith began his teaching career in 1999 as an Agriculture Teacher at Trigg County High School. In 2004, Smith says he was fortunate to be hired at Marshall County High School where he has spent the last 21 years teaching. Smith is currently one of two agriculture teachers at MCHS. He teaches the agriculture mechanics pathway, along with Large Animal Science and the Principles of Agriculture Science classes for freshman and first year sophomores.
“One of the greatest parts of my current job is working with our students through FFA contests and events,” Smith said. “I couldn't do these things without my partner teacher Mrs. Jordan Palmeri. Together we have had great success with our students in FFA contests over the last 10 years. I'm excited to start a new adventure and opportunity in my career as Director of Transportation and Facilities. I will be surrounded by a great team and hope I can be a useful part of it.”
In announcing the hiring, School Superintendent Bill Thorpe said “Allan has been a bus driver in the district for many years and has been active in facilities throughout his career. He will make a great addition to the team.”
Smith lives on a small farm in the Sharpe area of Marshall County, raising cattle and hay, and occasionally pigs. He is married to his high school sweetheart Kristie Felts Smith. They have a daughter Hannah, 21 and a son Grant, 16.
