Gifted and Talented Program

Gifted Services is pleased to collaborate with the staff of Marshall County High School to provide opportunities for challenging, thought-provoking, and creative lessons for our gifted high school population.

MCHS is on a block schedule with 90 minute classes. All gifted students are encouraged to participate in high-level challenging classes depending on their schedules and area(s) of giftedness.

We are pleased to offer the Leadership Dynamics class for students identified as gifted in Leadership or exhibit potential in Leadership. Leadership students participate in community service projects through MCHS and community outreach programs. Various leadership opportunities from the past include: 

  • Volunteer as mentors for middle school and elementary school gifted learners through the Mentorship Program
  • Organize and execute projects at MCHS such as keeping event calendars current and designing bulletin boards
  • Update lunch calendar
  • Volunteer at area nursing homes
  • Support Gifted Education in Kentucky by participating in Gifted Education Week in Frankfort
  • Pen-Pal Project for all 5th graders in the district to prepare them socially for 6th grade
  • Produce pod casts
  • Posting on social media
  • Produce videos 
  • Food drives
  • Community Game Nights in collaboration with Marshall County Library in Benton
  • Attend Kentucky Youth Assembly (KYA) and Kentucky United Nations Assembly (KUNA) through the Kentucky YMCA
  • Murray State University Annual Leadership Conference
  • Graves County High School Leadership Conference
  • Provide information for local radio station WCBL
  • Complete various tasks for the administration at MCHS
  • Assist Marshall Mission
  • Job shadowing
  • Promote tourism in Marshall County in collaboration with TEAM Kentucky Lake
  • Assist the Chamber of Commerce
  • Church leaders, business leaders, local and Supreme Court judges, and leaders in the school district visit as guest speakers to help guide our future leaders.
