Congratulations!
Your school has been selected as one of forty-nine Honorable Mentions regarding teaching conditions, school safety, and student achievement.
The initial selection included the list of schools that reached the 50% minimum threshold for response rate on the TELL Kentucky survey. From this list, the schools that ranked in the third or fourth quartiles regarding working conditions were then selected to move on to the next phase.
Phase II included student scores from the 2010-11 school year to determine a cut-off point to ensure that successful schools continued to the next phase of selection.
Schools in Phase III were then examined for details regarding their TELL Kentucky results, as well as other criteria (such as school safety), using a rubric designed by the New Teacher Center and the TELL Kentucky Advisory Team.
Phase IV schools met all of the minimum criteria for selection. The Advisory Team reviewed these and selected forty-nine exemplary schools across the state, aiming for seven schools in each of the State Board/Judicial Districts. These are the Honorable Mentions of which your school is included.
As your school has been identified for this honor, the school will be compiled on a list and given to educational leaders in Kentucky so that others are aware that your school is doing great things and can provide some best practice models. This honor also places you in consideration for the Winners’ Circle honor.
From these forty-nine Honorable Mentions, one school in each of Kentucky’s State Board/Judicial Districts, two at-large schools, and one ATC school will be awarded the Winners’ Circle honors on November 7, 2011, at The 17th Annual Safe Schools, Successful Students Conference in Louisville.
If your school is chosen as a finalist for the Winners’ Circle, you will receive further information in the near future regarding a site visit from TELL Kentucky Advisory Team members. These ten outstanding schools with excellent TELL Survey results and student achievement will be recognized for their remarkable teaching and learning conditions during the conference luncheon on November 7 and will also be used as examples of best practices across the state.
This is a great accomplishment for your school. Thank you for helping to ensure that your students will succeed in a teaching and learning environment that is conducive to achievement!
Sincerely,
Dr. Terry Holliday
