Benton Middle School eighth graders have completed a unit in the study

of the history of quilt making.

     Benton Middle School received a Picturing America award from the National   Endowment for the Humanities which includes 40 large reproductions of great American art and a comprehensive resource book that can be used across the    curriculum as well as a copy of James Archambeault's Historic Kentucky.

    

Ms. Kristen Chumbler's sixth grade art students at Benton Middle School participated in a art contest sponsored by the personnel cabinet. The theme of the statewide competition was "State Employees Making a Difference Everyday, in Everyway."  Mollie Gillespie, a sixth grade student at BMS won first place for her art work. Miss Gillespie traveled to Frankfort on September 30 where she was recognized by Governor Steve Beshear. Miss Gillepie's art will be reproduced and distributed across the state.

       $1200 was awarded to Benton Middle for the Arts Alive program

Former Benton Middle School art student, Rachel Solomon won 1st place on her Civil Rights poster sponsored by The Kentucky Commission of Human Rights.  She will attend the Galen A. Martin Memorial Luncheon on October 14, 2010. The award will be given at the 50th Anniversary Civil Rights Conference in the International Convention Center in Louisville, Kentucky. There were over 200 students who submitted entries. Congratulations to Rachel and Ms. Kristen Chumbler the art teacher that sponsored Rachel!
